VATRA is the first audio plugin from Flame Sound, the audio software brand founded by Tomislav Zlatić. It uses a fixed five-stage processing chain consisting of WEIGHT, IGNITE, HEAT, AIR, and PUNCH, with the entire chain operating at 4x oversampling. Rather than relying on conventional compression or limiting, VATRA uses harmonic generation, saturation, density processing, and transient shaping to increase perceived loudness while keeping the source material's dynamics largely intact. WEIGHT saturates low frequencies to add body, IGNITE increases density and perceived loudness, HEAT provides tape-style saturation and distortion, AIR adds high-frequency saturation and excitation, and PUNCH functions as a transient shaper.

VATRA is designed as a fast mix-finishing tool for full mixes, drum buses, individual drums, vocals, guitars, synths, and sound effects. The latest version includes three IGNITE modes—Clean, Color, and Max—along with Peak Match for level-matched A/B comparisons, value readouts for every control, and an Advanced panel for additional settings. Separate IN and OUT controls provide gain staging, while the plugin remains relatively light on CPU despite its 4x oversampling. VATRA is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for 64-bit macOS 11 or later and Windows 10 or later, supporting both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.
