Serum Expansion Pack: Latin Tech House is a preset pack for Xfer Records' Serum targeting a genre hybrid whose component parts are worth describing: Latin tech house takes the rolling, groove-driven structure and tight low end of tech house and overlays Latin percussion — congas, timbales, shakers, and claves — together with harmonic material drawn from Latin traditions, whether extended jazz-inflected chord voicings or horn-like stabs. The hybrid works because the two styles share a rhythmic foundation of interlocking patterns, and producers including Cloonee, Hugel, and the broader Latin tech house scene built a commercial sound around that combination. What a preset pack for the genre needs to supply follows from that: bass patches with the rolling, filtered quality tech house uses, organ and horn-style stabs for the Latin harmonic layer, percussive plucks and marimba-like tones, and lead sounds suited to top-line melodic figures. Serum suits the task because its wavetable oscillators can cover both synthetic and instrument-approximating timbres, its filters can produce the sweeping bass movement tech house depends on, and its effects and modulation routing allow pitched percussion behaviour to be built into a patch. Packs in this format are documented with consistent structures across the market: Plugin Boutique's range includes similar genre packs for named hosts — Diva Expansion Pack: Ambient Depths ships 64 expertly crafted presets across 8 Arps, 12 Basses, 8 FX, 10 Keys, 10 Leads, and 16 Pads, requiring u-he Diva (latest version); and VPS Avenger Expansion Pack: House & Techno provides a collection of 63 VPS Avenger presets covering all aspects of House & Techno, broken down as 20 x Bass, 20 x Leads, 10 x Chords + Stabs, and 13 x FX & Atmos. The category breakdown is the detail a buyer needs, since it tells them whether a pack will supply the specific roles a track requires. A requirement applies and should be stated: Xfer Records Serum is required, and Serum presets ship as files placed in the instrument's preset folder, accessed through Serum's Menu tab and the "Show Serum Presets folder" option. It suits Latin tech house, tech house, house, and Latin electronic production. Presets run inside the host on macOS and Windows wherever Serum runs.
