Renaissance Compressor — known as R-Comp — is Waves' classic, multi-application compressor, designed to work across a broad range of sources rather than specialising in one. Its distinguishing feature is a choice of two compression characters: vintage Opto and modern Electro modes. Opto mode provides the smooth, program-dependent behaviour associated with optical tube compressors, suitable for vocals, bass, and full mixes; Electro mode offers faster, more precise behavior suited to drums, guitars, and material needing firm control. That dual character is what makes it a general-purpose tool rather than a single-purpose one, and it remains a common choice across mixing and mastering work. The Renaissance series as a whole shares a consistent interface philosophy, and the compressor's no-frills design is noted as achieving great-sounding vocal compression quickly and efficiently, with new redesigned interfaces introduced in recent Waves versions. It appears alongside Renaissance Vox in the series, and both are included in Waves' Platinum bundle.
