About Reaktor Razor
Razor is an innovative additive software synthesizer developed by Berlin electronic producer Errorsmith in collaboration with Native Instruments. Running inside Reaktor or the free Reaktor Player, the plugin constructs sound using up to 320 partials (sine waves in parallel). Because every element—from the dual filters and stereo width to the reverbs and delays—manipulates these individual partials directly, Razor delivers an ultra-sharp, upfront, and dynamic digital sound character without phase aliasing. It is widely used across dubstep, drum & bass, techno, hip-hop, synthwave, and cinematic scoring.
Despite its deep additive architecture under the hood, the plugin provides an intuitive, subtractive-style interface paired with a signature 3D spectral display that provides real-time visual feedback of harmonic motion. Key features include over 20 unique filter types (including formant, vowel, and waterbed filters), dedicated "Dissonance Effects" for microtonal and frequency-shifting chaos, a built-in 34-band vocoder, performance macros optimized for controller mapping, and hundreds of cutting-edge presets. Razor operates as a Reaktor instrument expansion in 64-bit VST, VST3, AU, and AAX formats (plus Standalone) for Windows (10/11) and macOS (with native Apple Silicon and Intel support).
