Pulsar Audio 1178 is a stereo FET compressor modeled after the legendary 1178 hardware, the stereo counterpart to the 1176. Its fast response provides precise transient control while retaining the punch and character associated with FET compression. The plugin recreates the original unit's compression behavior and adds modern features including adjustable lookahead and look-behind, external sidechain routing, a dedicated sidechain EQ, and Mid/Side processing.

The 1178 also includes an integrated four-mode saturation stage with Tape, Warm, Triode, and Clip options, allowing anything from subtle harmonic coloration to aggressive distortion. Its All-Buttons-In mode provides heavily compressed, characterful results, while advanced metering displays input, output, RMS, peak, and gain-reduction information. The plugin supports VST 2.4, VST3, AU, and AAX on Windows and macOS, making it suitable for vocals, drums, bass, guitars, buses, and mastering applications.
