Antelope Audio Opto 2A is a tube optical compressor and limiter modeled after the legendary leveling amplifier that helped establish optical compression in recording and broadcasting. Its T4 optical attenuator and two-stage release design produce smooth, musical gain reduction that responds naturally to the incoming signal. The plugin uses just Gain and Peak Reduction controls, while a dedicated switch changes the unit from compressor to limiter mode.

Opto 2A features an average 10 ms attack time and a program-dependent release that changes according to the length and strength of the incoming signal. Its compression ratio also varies with the source level, contributing to its responsive character. The plugin is particularly effective on vocals, but can also be used on bass, guitars, keyboards, drums, and other sources where gentle, transparent dynamic control is required. The native version runs on Windows and macOS in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, while the Synergy Core version can also operate in real time on compatible Antelope Audio interfaces.
