About ODC 2800 Synthesizer
ODC 2800 is described as an exceptional three-in-one virtual instrument that pays tribute to the legendary synth pioneer Alan R. Pearlman on the momentous 100th anniversary of his birth, and the three-in-one framing is literal: Cherry Audio's ODC 2800 starts out as a faithful emulation of the ARP Odyssey, including a choice of all three filter circuits. The Odyssey's production history is documented: the Odyssey took the music world by storm in 1972, and never went out of production through ARP's entire history, even as the original white-panel Mk I version (the ARP Model 2800) gave way in 1975 to the black-and-gold Mk II (Model 2810), followed in its turn by the black-and-orange Mk III (Model 2820) in 1978 — and all three are reproduced here.
The three filter circuits are the technical heart of the emulation: VCF filter emulation based on the three versions: Rev 1 4023 (12 dB/Oct, 2-pole) from the 2800; Rev 2 4035 (24 dB/Oct, 4-pole, ladder) from the 2810; and Rev 3 4075 (24 dB/Oct, 4-pole cascade) from the 2820, with a highpass filter and lowpass, bandpass, and highpass responses on all three VCFs. The emulation uses award-winning synth designer Mark Barton's proprietary DSP coding, which perfectly reproduces every sonic nuance and response of the original synthesizers. Cherry Audio's extensions are documented: in classic Cherry Audio fashion, we then take the design even further, preserving the Odyssey sound while adding a third VCO, more envelope functionality, an extra LFO, expanded noise and portamento options, extensive aftertouch control, a powerful arpeggiator, built-in effects, and up to 16-note polyphony, where the duophonic architecture has been upgraded to support Monophonic, Mono Legato, Duophonic, and Polyphonic modes, with a choice of 1, 4, 8, or 16 voices and a unison mode. It also introduces a new look for Cherry Audio virtual instruments with the integration of an expandable panel for more immediate access to effects settings. The preset library spans 14 Arps, 11 Basses, 8 Brass, 10 Duophonic, 12 Keys, 10 Leads, 14 Pads, 10 Polyphonic, and 11 SoundFX across 330+ presets, and it is available in AU, VST, VST3, AAX, and standalone formats, with a fully scalable UI including Cherry Audio's Focus zoom-in feature and standard UI zoom and resize via drag, and complete documentation available online or as a downloadable PDF. It sits in a catalogue that Cherry Audio describes as 28 emulations of vintage synthesizers; three original synthesizers; two legendary drum machines, electric piano, and tonewheel organ; a massive modular synthesizer platform; and over 12,000 professionally designed presets. One reviewer's verdict is worth including: the ODC 2800 is one of the finest-sounding and best-looking synths around. It suits electronic music, synthwave, techno, and film score production.
