NEON is UJAM's Virtual Drummer plugin for nu disco drums and dance-pop grooves — material defined by tight, snappy, on-top-of-the-mix drum sound in combination with a driving, forward rhythmic feel. The developer's framing captures its intent: hits like a drum machine, grooves like a drummer. Rather than exposing raw multi-mic recordings and leaving the mixing to you, NEON is built around a more finished drum sound: its five vintage acoustic kits were tuned, miked, and compressed for dance-pop and nu disco during the recording and editing process, and the built-in mixer adds modern finishing for today's nu disco sound. The recording chain is documented — Ludwig and Rogers kits captured with MD 421 microphones through Neve 1073 / 1081 preamps and a Studer 962 — giving the source material a specific vintage character that the processing then pushes toward the dancefloor. It is macro-controlled by 6 mix presets, alongside a Real/Glam slider that walks the kit from a dry booth to a processed dancefloor, and provides 690 grooves across 30 styles with drag-and-drop MIDI editing. NEON's grooves and mixes come from Nate Williams, musical director on the project and a longtime collaborator with Jamiroquai and Steve Winwood. It is tuned for nu disco, synthwave, funk, and contemporary pop and dance productions. Formats are VST 2, VST 3, AU 2, and AAX — all 64-bit only — on macOS Monterey 12 through Tahoe 26 and Windows 10–11, supported on Intel and Apple silicon Macs (Rosetta and native), delivered through the UJAM App. It was released 12 August 2026. #NEON #VirtualDrummer #UJAM #NuDisco #DancePop #Drums #DrumKits #Grooves #MIDI #MixPresets #Disco #Synthwave #Funk #Pop #MusicProduction #VST2 #VST3 #AU #AAX #LogicPro #AbletonLive #FLStudio
