About MJUC jr.
MJUC jr. is the "little brother" to Klanghelm’s acclaimed MJUC, designed to capture the lush, dense character of early 1960s tube compression. It utilizes a variable-mu design (often associated with the legendary Fairchild 660/670), where the compression ratio changes dynamically based on the input signal level. This results in a very natural, "musical" gain reduction that is ideal for "gluing" a mix together. The internal signal path features a meticulously modeled interstage transformer simulation, which adds subtle non-linearities and a deep, lively soundstage even when no compression is occurring.
The interface is elegantly simple, centered around a massive "Compress" knob and an output gain control. A key feature is the three-position timing switch (Fast, Slow, and Auto), which does more than just adjust attack and release times—it also alters the slew rate of the transformers and the overall timing of the circuitry. This means each setting generates a slightly different harmonic profile, allowing you to switch from a punchy, aggressive "forward" sound to a transparent, laid-back leveling effect. Whether used on vocals, bass, or the master bus, MJUC jr. delivers professional analog warmth with minimal effort.
