Manley Variable Mu is a tube and transformer-driven compressor and limiter by Universal Audio, developed in collaboration with Manley Labs. It is a detailed emulation of the original Manley Variable Mu, using its dual-triode gain-reduction design to deliver smooth, transparent compression with warm harmonic character. It is particularly suited to mix buses and mastering, but can also be used on vocals, bass, strings, horns, and other individual tracks.

The plugin provides Compress and Limit modes, adjustable attack and recovery, a high-pass sidechain filter, and Left/Right or Mid/Side operation for precise stereo processing. Additional plugin-only features include Dry/Wet Mix for parallel compression and Headroom control, while channel linking allows consistent stereo dynamics. Manley Variable Mu is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, with both native UADx and UAD-2 versions available.
