About Luminabells
Luminabells is described by Soundiron as an experimental percussion library made from fragile incandescent glass light bulbs of all shapes. They were tapped with fingers, palms, sticks, mallets, other bulbs, and more, focusing on each timbre and tone that we could bring out of each lightbulb. The source choice is worth explaining, because thin glass under tension behaves unlike any conventional percussion material: a struck bulb produces a bright, high, glassy tone with an audible pitch and a very short decay, and filament and envelope resonance add a secondary character that makes the material distinctive in a mix.
Its contents are documented: one master NKI instrument bank in open Kontakt format, tuned and untuned tonal resonant dings, rings, pings, pops, clacks, and other transient impacts from 40 lightbulbs of all shapes and sizes, 20 Ambience patches created from the source content, 24 bit / 48 kHz uncompressed PCM wav samples, 1,649 stereo samples, and 1.2 GB installed, with an adaptable LFO system, with selectable LFO shape, modulation target parameter, speed, intensity, tempo-syncing, and fade-in time. The Luminabells 2.0 update added further content: for Luminabells 2.0, we created brand new ambiences, drones, and atmospheric pads from the raw source recordings. This library also contains 20 custom FX presets to give you instant inspiration for your next film, video game score, soundtrack, or music composition. Two compatibility points matter: this is a standard open-format library for the full retail version of Kontakt. It can't be used in the free Kontakt Player or added to the Libraries rack — the manual confirms that the free Kontakt Player, Libraries rack, Native Access, Komplete Kontrol, and the "Add Library" import feature do not support this library — and requirements are Native Instruments Kontakt 5.5.2 or later, Windows 7 (or later) or macOS 10.9 (or later). It is priced at $15, frequently discounted to $9. It belongs to a documented family of experimental percussion including Cathedral of Junk, Luftballoon, PVC Beatbox Ensemble, Snow Drums, and the Antidrum series. It suits film, television, and game scoring, sound design, experimental production, and percussion programming.
