Lounge Lizard EP-5 Upgrade from Lounge Lizard EP-4 is the discounted route for existing owners to the current generation. The upgrade's value is concentrated in a rebuilt engine: version 5 introduces a NEW dual synthesis engine (tine-based, reed-based), a completely redesigned physical modeling core, a dedicated UI for each piano type, a redesigned browser with a search function, and a new library of classic and custom pianos — against the pre-existing instrument, which is a software electric piano based on the classic instruments of the seventies, where each component of these instruments has been modeled with AAS's cutting edge physical modeling technology to provide realistic and lively sounds.

The significance of the dual engine is worth explaining for the catalogue: tine-based and reed-based electric pianos are physically different instruments — a Rhodes produces sound from struck metal tines, a Wurlitzer from struck metal reeds — and modelling them with separate engine topologies, rather than one generalised model, is what produces the distinct character each has. AAS describes the result as our fully redesigned physical modeling core, now featuring dedicated models for tine-based and reed-based pianos, offering unmatched realism, warmth, and expressiveness. MPE support was added to Lounge Lizard EP-5 in a November 2025 update. Physical modelling brings documented practical benefits: sound manipulation at the source core, presets that load in a flash, super smooth dynamics with no velocity layers, a small memory footprint of less than 256 MB of RAM per instance, and installation in less than a minute. The instrument includes an onboard effects rack, a standalone instrument version, NKS support, and support for all major plugin formats. The upgrade is priced at $79.00 through distributors including ilio, and AAS, founded in 1998 and based in Montreal, is having released Tassman, the first virtual instrument based on physical modeling, and having come to be recognized as the industry leader in this exciting new field of synthesis. A Lounge Lizard EP-5 +PACKS bundle also exists, comprising the synthesizer, the factory library, and three expansion sound packs at $249. It suits jazz, soul, funk, R&B, and pop production.
