Liquid Drum & Bass NI Massive is a preset pack for Native Instruments Massive aimed at liquid drum & bass — the soulful, melodic school of the genre associated with LTJ Bukem's Good Looking Records, Calibre, Marcus Intalex, and the wider Bristol and London scenes of the late 1990s and early 2000s. The register's requirements are specific: a warm, rolled-off sub-bass rather than an aggressive mid-range one; extensive chord and pad content carrying the harmonic movement; Rhodes-like and piano-like key sounds; and melodic leads that sit behind the vocal rather than competing with it — and the genre's production is notably smooth, since it avoids the resonant filtering and sharp transients of jump-up and neurofunk. Massive's suitability for the register is a real consideration and should be addressed honestly in the catalogue: the original Massive is most associated with the aggressive wobble and lead sounds of dubstep and electro, and its factory wavetables are weighted toward those shapes — so a liquid pack's quality rests substantially on the designer's ability to reach warm, non-aggressive timbres from that engine, which is possible through its filters and effects but requires deliberate work. Comparators in the market show the expected format: Loopmasters' Patchworx series ships 64 custom presets, 64 MIDI files, and 64 WAV rendered versions per pack, with Icicle Drum & Bass – Massive Presets comprising 94 MB of content broken down as 20 Bass, 6 Arps, 10 Drums, 8 FX, 10 Lead, and 10 Pads, produced exclusively for Loopmasters by Icicle — the pack's bass, lead, and pad weighting reflecting what a drum & bass pack actually needs, and the MIDI files and WAV renders letting a producer audition and reuse content before loading the host. A compatibility note applies and should be stated: Native Instruments Massive is required, and Massive presets are not compatible with NI Massive X — so buyers should confirm which instrument they own, since the two are separate products with incompatible preset formats. It suits liquid drum & bass, atmospheric drum & bass, jungle, and soulful electronic production. Presets run inside the host on macOS and Windows wherever Massive runs.
