About Helm
Helm (by Matt Tytel) is a high-performance, open-source polyphonic synthesizer designed to bridge the gap between powerful sound design and intuitive visual feedback. It features a dual-oscillator architecture where each oscillator offers 11 anti-aliased waveforms, including specialized "3-step" and "pyramid" shapes. With support for up to 32-voice polyphony and a dedicated sub-oscillator with shuffle waveshaping, it provides the technical authority to create everything from earth-shaking EDM basses to complex, evolving pads.
The standout feature of Helm is its interactive visual modulation system, which provides real-time animation of signal changes, making it an exceptional tool for both learning and professional sound design. Its modulation matrix is highly flexible, featuring three LFOs (two monophonic, one polyphonic), a step sequencer, and a unique formant filter for vocal-like textures. Complemented by a built-in "stutter" effect, distortion, and a robust arpeggiator, Helm excels in electronic, trap, and experimental music production while maintaining a lightweight, cross-platform footprint.
