Sugar Bytes Graindad is a real-time granular effects processor that records incoming audio into a buffer and simultaneously plays it back through a grain engine capable of handling up to 64 grains. Its 12 main controls can create effects including looping, stuttering, time stretching, pitch shifting, reversing, harmonization, freezing, and texturizing. Audio recording can be triggered by the host clock, incoming MIDI notes, or a multiband transient detector, allowing the granular processing to react directly to the source material.

Graindad features two interconnected modulation systems, including Harvester, a visual modulation system that can control all 12 main parameters simultaneously. Additional modulation sources include LFOs, envelopes, step sequencing, MIDI, and intelligent randomizers, while a 16-step trigger sequencer provides rhythmic control. Its effects section includes low-pass, high-pass, band-pass, and band-reject filters, HQ, spring and shimmer reverbs, delay, flanger, and chorus. The plugin is available for Windows and macOS in VST2, VST3, AU, and AAX formats, with standalone operation and native Apple Silicon support.
