Universal Audio's Fairchild Tube Limiter Collection recreates the Fairchild 660 and Fairchild 670, two legendary variable-mu tube compressors from the late 1950s. The plugins are based on golden-reference Fairchild units from Ocean Way Studios and model the complete tube amplifier and transformer signal path, capturing the characteristic tube warmth, harmonic saturation, smooth compression, and program-dependent response of the original hardware. The 660 is particularly suited to mono sources such as vocals, bass, piano, and guitar, while the 670 provides stereo processing for buses, mixes, and mastering.

The collection includes modern controls such as Wet/Dry mix, Sidechain Filter, Headroom, and stereo linking, providing additional flexibility beyond the original hardware. The Headroom control can be used to change how readily the circuit enters gain reduction and harmonic coloration, while the Sidechain Filter can help maintain punch when processing drums. The current native UAD versions are available as Fairchild 660 Compressor and Fairchild 670 Compressor, with VST3, AU, and AAX support on Windows and macOS; UAD-2 versions are also available for compatible UAD hardware.
