About DX7 V

DX7 V is described as an FM synthesis gamechanger, and Arturia's framing of the original's significance is worth keeping: the DX7 brought digital synthesis to everyday musicians, transformed the sound of the charts, and won the title of best-selling synth of all time. DX7 V is a software reimagining of the icon, bringing that iconic glassy, punchy, crystal-clear sound to your DAW. The DX7's reputation rests on six-operator FM, which produces electric pianos, bells, marimbas, glassy pads, and metallic basses that subtractive synthesis cannot reach — and on a programming interface so opaque that most users never created their own sounds, which is the specific problem Arturia's version addresses. The enhancements are documented and substantial: 32 original DX7 algorithms and 432 factory presets, plus additional waveforms and filters, a modulation matrix, and improved envelopes. Users describe the additions clearly: the DX7 V expands on the original, not only the new waveforms but also the inclusion of the modulation matrix, in which this instrument is in a league of its own. The coolest thing is that the YM3812 sound chip waveforms are included, a brilliant move! and the main strengths of the DX7 V are its new features: the additional waveforms which greatly enhance its versatility; better envelopes than the original hard-to-predict ones; great new filters; and the Mod Matrix. The modulation matrix and alternative waveforms let you combine modular and subtractive synthesis techniques with the power of digital FM, and polyphonic portamento, which players loved on the DX but had to dive into a menu to use, is now just turn it on and tweak the time. There is also a multi-pattern, tempo-syncable arpeggiator — a feature not found on the original. It includes a preset browser with keyword search and browsing by instrument type and musical style, and a resizable GUI. It works in Standalone, VST, AAX, Audio Unit, and NKS (64-bit DAWs only). Requirements are Win 10+ (64-bit) or Mac OS 11.0+, 4 GB RAM, 4 cores CPU at 3.4 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo-boost), 3 GB free hard disk space, and an OpenGL 2.0 compatible GPU, with ARM processors not supported on Windows. Current version is 1.13.4.6366, at 477.43 MB on Mac and 335.35 MB on Windows. A free demo is available. It suits synthwave, pop, electronic, cinematic, and 80s-revival production. #DX7V #Arturia #YamahaDX7 #DX7 #FMSynthesis #FMSynth #DigitalSynth #Synthesizer #Synth #VCollection #ModulationMatrix #Wavetables #Arpeggiator #SoundDesign #Synthwave #Pop #Cinematic #MusicProduction #Standalone #VST #VST3 #AU #AAX #NKS #FLStudio #AbletonLive
