Universal Audio's dbx® 160 Compressor / Limiter is a fully licensed emulation of the legendary dbx 160 hardware compressor, recreating its distinctive solid-state VCA compression, fast response, and nonlinear character. Its straightforward controls make it useful for adding punch and density to drums, bass, synths, acoustic guitars, vocals, and drum buses, ranging from subtle compression to aggressive, heavily compressed effects.

The plugin adds several features for modern mixing, including a Dry/Wet Mix control for parallel compression and a Sidechain Filter that reduces low-frequency pumping without directly filtering the audio signal. It retains the original's Threshold, Compression, and Output Gain controls, with compression ratios extending from 1:1 toward limiting behavior. The native UADx version is available in VST3, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and macOS, while a UAD-2 version is also available for compatible UAD hardware.
