About CP-70 V
CP-70 V is described as an expressive electric legend, and it honors the legendary Yamaha electro-acoustic piano that infused the 70's and 80's with a rich, warm and eminent stage sound. Combining detailed sampling with authentic modeling, cut through a dense mix or project your play-style to an audience with this perfectly recreated, iconic instrument. The Yamaha CP-70 was a specific and clever design: a real piano action and strings in a portable cabinet, with piezoelectric pickups instead of a soundboard, which produced a bright, percussive, slightly wiry tone that cuts through a band — the sound of countless 1970s and 1980s stage and studio recordings.
The technical approach is documented: an enhanced model of the classic CP-70 piano combining 8 dynamic layers of sampling with circuit modeling, using Arturia's TAE — the exclusive analog modeling technology that makes our emulations indistinguishable from the originals, which works by accurately mimicking the characteristics of analog oscillators, filters, and soft clipping to provide astonishing component-accurate detail and authentic analog charm in equal measure. Its controls include an advanced velocity curve editor and instrument, output, acoustics, and mechanical tuning options, plus an Age option to apply detune and Timbre shift to change the tonality. Sound designers note the instrument's flexibility beyond its original role: rather than be confined to electric grand sounds made popular in prior decades, the flexibility of the sound engine allows you to reengineer the definition of the instrument itself. In a few cases, I created what sounded like bowed wires! and the envelope times that turn the piano into a soft, bowed piano is a truly brilliant feature as well. Another notes that Arturia's version captures the classic sound, and gives us all deeper control over the sound than the original ever did. I especially enjoyed the extra character that the microphone signal offers, the envelope controls and the wealth of effects provided to work with. It costs 99€ / 99$, is available in Standalone, VST, AAX, Audio Unit, and NKS (64-bit DAWs only), and requires Win 10+ (64-bit) or Mac OS 11.0+, 4 GB RAM, 4 cores CPU at 3.4 GHz (4.0 GHz Turbo-boost), 3 GB free hard disk space, and an OpenGL 2.0 compatible GPU, with ARM processors not supported on Windows. Current version is 1.0.5.6366, at 855.67 MB on Mac and 684.75 MB on Windows. A free demo is available. It suits rock, pop, soul, and 70s and 80s revival production.
