About Concert Vibraphone

Concert Vibraphone is a deeply sampled Kontakt instrument that captures the rich, resonant tone of a professional concert vibraphone with exceptional realism, and the physical details of a vibraphone explain what that means for a buyer: the instrument is a tuned metal bar percussion instrument with resonator tubes beneath each bar and, distinctively, a motor-driven set of rotating discs at the top of those tubes that produces the characteristic vibrato — so the instrument's defining quality is that its sustain is not static but pulses, and capturing that convincingly requires recording the motorised behaviour rather than synthesising it. It continues Soundiron's solo-instrument series alongside its string and percussion titles.

Its contents are documented and are unusually deep for a single percussion instrument: 8+ velocity layers and 8 round robins per note, 5 different mallet articulations: Soft, 120B, Medium, Dampened, and Hard, 20 ambient pads and evolving drones created from the source content, and 22 powerful Kontakt.nki instrument presets. The mallet count is the detail that defines the library's range: a vibraphone played with soft mallets produces a rounded, sustained tone suited to ballads and ambient work; a hard mallet produces a bright, percussive attack with more of the metal bar's upper partials; the dampened articulation controls the sustain by mechanically stopping the bar; and the "120B" designation points to the specific mallet model — so five mallets means the library spans the instrument's expressive range rather than recording one approach. Eight velocity layers with eight round robins per note is a high sampling density for percussion, and the round robins matter especially on a struck percussion instrument, since a repeated note without variation produces an audible machine-gun artifact — which is precisely what a vibraphone's frequent repeated-note patterns would expose. Its format coverage is broader than most libraries and should be led with: available for the full version of Kontakt 6.6+ or later, Free Decent Sampler, and SFZ format, with the developer noting that users who do not own the full version of Kontakt are encouraged to use the Decent Sampler compatible presets included with this library. The requirement must be stated clearly: the full unlocked retail version of Kontakt 6.6 or later is required for all Kontakt nki instrument presets in this library. The free Kontakt Player, Libraries rack, Native Access, Komplete Kontrol, and the 'Add Library' import feature do not support this library. Systems are Windows 7 (or later) or macOS 10.12 (or later), and the samples in this library are standard 24-bit 48 kHz wave files that can be used in any audio software or hardware that supports common wav files — the unlocked sample directories again being worth carrying, since they make the raw content usable outside Kontakt. It is published by Soundiron and distributed through Loot Audio and ADSR Sounds, with a PDF user manual available. It suits jazz, film and television scoring, ambient production, lounge and exotica, and contemporary classical composition, and the library's position is as the detailed alternative to a generic mallet collection — a producer wanting one vibraphone sampled properly, with all the mallet choices and the sustain behaviour intact, rather than a multi-instrument percussion set that covers mallets thinly.
