CLA-2A Compressor / Limiter models the legendary electro-optical tube compressor, emulating the original's smooth, frequency-dependent behaviors that made it a favourite of engineers. It uses the same underlying design as the Teletronix LA-2A lineage, and Waves painstakingly modelled and incorporated the hardware's characteristics to capture the sound and performance of the original equipment. The addition of Chris Lord-Alge's personal presets gives direct access to settings used on his records. The LA-2A family's defining quality is program-dependent optical compression, which levels material musically rather than clinically, and it remains one of the most-used compressors in professional studios — particularly on vocals, bass, and full mixes. Controls follow the hardware: Gain, Peak Reduction, HiFreq, and a Compressor/Limiter mode switch, with a VU display toggling between Input, Gain Reduction, and Output metering. Mono and stereo components are included.
