BFD Wooden Snares is a collection of premium wood-shell snare drums for BFD3, built on a stated sonic premise: wood shells are desired for their warm, fat and round sound and we've selected five beautiful examples for their emblematic character. That description is accurate as to what distinguishes the material — wood shells produce a lower fundamental and a softer, more rounded attack than metal, which makes them the natural choice for pop, rock, blues, jazz, and any production where a bright, cutting snare would be wrong. A dedicated snare pack is a practical proposition because the snare is the single most identity-defining element in a drum sound, and a producer working on a track often needs a different snare rather than a different kit. Content in this category generally includes multiple snare models captured with sticks and brushes, with the strainer on and off, and often in multiple tunings, each presented in natural and processed versions, with round robins and multiple velocity layers for realistic performance. Requirements are BFD 3.5 License Required on Windows 10 version 1909 and above or macOS 12 Monterey and above, with 16.86 GB free disk space required — a notably large figure for a snare-only pack, reflecting multi-articulation capture at high detail — plus an internet connection to authorize, and supported formats are VST2, VST3, and AAX on Windows and VST2, VST3, AAX, and AU (Intel and ARM — Rosetta is not required) on Mac. Note that BFD expansions require BFD 3.5 and are not compatible with BFD Player expansions. It sits alongside BFD Metal Snares and BFD Modern Drummer Snare Selects in the snare-focused part of the catalogue.
