Artillery Shell Cello is described by Soundiron as a unique hand-made instrument created by Dust Bowl Guitars. Based on the concept of a traditional cello, this instrument features an empty metal artillery shell as the body of the instrument! This unique design results in an eerie, shimmering metallic resonance. The construction detail explains the sound completely: a cello's resonance depends on the body cavity it is attached to, and substituting a hollow metal shell for a wooden body replaces the warm, woody resonance with a ringing, inharmonic metallic one — which is why the library exists as a distinct instrument rather than as a novelty.

Its contents are documented: dynamic fingered and mezzo-forte gliss true legato, a full spectrum of long and short note variants and styles, an extended catalog of modular dynamic expressions like crescendos, decrescendos, sforzandos, and swells, and plenty of specialized articulations, plus live performance phrases. A reviewer's assessment is useful for the listing: with its distinctive sound, extensive articulations, and live performance phrases, the Artillery Shell Cello stands out for composers seeking a unique twist on a beloved solo instrument. Requirements are documented with specific figures: required disk space for installation of the library is at least 18 GB, with minimum system RAM of 8 GB and suggested 16 GB or more, and the library is designed for the full retail version of Native Instruments Kontakt 6.2.2 or later. Two compatibility notes matter: this library cannot be used with the free Kontakt Player — to use this "Open Kontakt" format, you need a full version of Kontakt, which is included in products such as Komplete or Komplete Ultimate — and the special Libraries tab doesn't support this open-format Kontakt library, but you can use the standard File browser tab and import this library into the Kontakt Quickload window for easy loading and navigation. It is priced at $59 and requires Windows 7 or higher or Mac OSX 10.12 or higher. It suits horror, thriller, and science-fiction scoring, experimental and industrial production, and sound design, and is a natural choice where a cello line should sound wrong in a specific and controlled way.
