The API 2500 Bus Compressor emulates the stereo bus compressor that has become a standard glue processor on drum buses, mix buses, and full mixes. The original is valued for its specific combination of punch and control: it can be aggressive without sounding crushed, and its Thrust and knee behaviour give engineers unusual authority over how the compression reacts to low end versus the rest of the signal. That flexibility is why it is commonly used when a bus needs energy rather than smoothness. As a bus processor it is placed across summed groups and used for cohesion, density, and transient shaping, and it also works well on full mixes where a finished, professional glue is wanted. It runs natively on macOS and Windows without UA hardware, or accelerated on Apollo interfaces and UAD Accelerators, in VST3, AU, and AAX formats, and is managed through the free UA Connect application.
