Waves API 2500 is a stereo bus compressor developed in close collaboration with API and modeled after the API 2500 hardware. It provides selectable New and Old compression types, representing feed-forward and feedback-style operation, along with Soft, Medium, and Hard knee settings. The patented THRUST circuit modifies the detector response to reduce low-frequency pumping and preserve punch, while adjustable L/R linking and detector-shape controls provide detailed control over stereo dynamics.

The plugin can operate as two independent mono compressors, making it suitable for stereo buses as well as individual channels. Additional controls include variable attack and release, automatic or manual makeup gain, Mix for parallel compression, output trim, and analog-style modeling. It is particularly suited to mix buses, drums, percussion, guitars, vocals, and mastering, where controlled dynamics and the characteristic API punch are desired.
