Its variable-mu architecture provides progressively stronger compression as the threshold is adjusted, with the compression ratio ranging from approximately 2:1 to 4:1. The plugin uses a fixed 50 ms attack and an adjustable release from 0.3 to 1.3 seconds, while its tube circuitry adds harmonic coloration and smooth dynamic control.

ALT-436C provides Input/Volume, Threshold, Release Time, Compression Meter, and Output Gain controls, with up to 30 dB of gain reduction. Its relatively gentle response and vintage tube character make it particularly useful for vocals, bass guitars, strings, synths, and other sources that benefit from controlled dynamics and added warmth. The plugin runs natively in DAWs on Windows and macOS, and can also operate in real time on compatible Antelope Audio Synergy Core interfaces.
