Abbey Road Reel ADT is the first plugin to successfully model Abbey Road's Automatic Double Tracking — the technique developed at the studio to create a doubled vocal without the singer recording a second take. That process, using two linked tape machines with variable speed control, produced the distinctive widened, slightly detuned doubling heard on countless Beatles recordings and on a great deal of music since. Modelling it accurately means capturing the behaviour of the two tape machines and their relationship, including the wobble and drift that give the effect its character — the reason a conventional delay-plus-pitch-shift approximation does not sound the same. It suits lead vocals most obviously, but also guitars, keys, and any source wanting width and thickness without a second performance. It is part of Waves' Abbey Road plugin range, and appears in the V13 installer alongside Abbey Road Chambers, Abbey Road Reverb Plates, Abbey Road RS124 Compressor, Abbey Road Saturator, Abbey Road Studio 3, Abbey Road TG Mastering Chain, and Abbey Road Vinyl.
